RTD Framework Programme
On 8th July 2005 Directorate General for Energy and Transport has published its fourth and last call for proposals in the 6th Framework Programme for Research, Technology Development and Demonstration (2002-2006) (FP6).
This call includes RTD activities in the Thematic Priorities 'Aeronautics and Space', 'Sustainable Energy Systems' and 'Sustainable Surface Transport' and has an indicative budget of in total 214M€.
a. Sustainable Energy Systems
Objectives:
The achievement of more sustainable energy systems (SES) and services is of great strategic importance to the EU, in both the short and the longer term. The benefits of SES research include:
Reduced environmental impact, including climate change
Increased security and diversity of energy supply, and
Improved industrial competitiveness.
The scope of SES is very wide, covering the:
- Development of cleaner energy systems, including renewable energies,
- Economical and efficient use of energy, and
- Socio-economic aspects of energy.
Research topics include wind, biomass, concentrated solar power, ocean energy systems, hydrogen, CO2 capture and energy storage.

CONCERTO combines large scale demonstration of energy efficient technologies in buildings supplied by Renewable energy sources, integrating energy demand with supply, in an economic perspective, in large scale applications.
